Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the Afterglow mobile application ("Afterglow", "we", "us"), operated by Primary Vector Inc. ("Primary Vector"), handles information when you use the app.
1. What Afterglow stores on your device
Afterglow reads photos and videos you grant access to from your device’s media library. It generates derivative data from that media — thumbnails, face embeddings (numerical representations of faces used for clustering), extracted location and date metadata, AI-generated day summaries, and any journal notes you add. This data is kept in a local SQLite database on your device.
2. On-device processing
Face detection, face recognition, scene and activity analysis, and person-to-person clustering all run locally on your device. Afterglow does not upload your photos, videos, faces, or derived data to our servers for processing.
3. Third-party AI features
Some optional features (such as natural-language day summaries) send de-identified text prompts — never your photos — to a third-party large-language-model provider over HTTPS. The prompt contains structured text derived from your data (for example, a list of location names and durations for one day). We do not attach any persistent user identifier to these requests. You can turn these features off in Settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
4. Cloud backup (optional)
You may choose to back up your journal and full-resolution media to your own iCloud or Google Drive account. When enabled, Afterglow writes encrypted-in-transit copies of these files into a private app-data folder inside your chosen provider. Primary Vector cannot read this data — it lives in your account under your provider’s privacy and security terms.
5. Contacts
If you grant contact access, Afterglow reads contact photos and names to label people it recognises in your photo library. Contact data is processed locally and is not uploaded anywhere. You can revoke contact access at any time in your device settings.
6. Analytics and tracking
Afterglow does not use advertising identifiers, third-party analytics SDKs, or behavioural tracking. Crash reports, if enabled by the underlying app store, are handled by Apple or Google under their respective privacy policies.
7. Your rights
Because Afterglow does not maintain an account or send personal data to our servers, there is generally no data for us to export or delete on your behalf. You can delete all local app data by uninstalling the app. You can delete your cloud backup directly from your iCloud or Google Drive settings.
8. Children
Afterglow is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
